Saplings and Sages: An Unforgettable Artistic Encounter!

A Special Intergenerational Arts-based Project that Connected Seniors and Elementary School Students!

This winter, something truly heartwarming unfolded each week between the students of Carlyle Elementary and residents of The Graham Private Retirement Residence. Through a special project with Préville Productions students and seniors came together to take part in an inspiring intergenerational arts-based project called “Saplings and Sages“.

When this project began in early October, the team at Préville Productions was over the moon to bring this creative collaboration to life within the close-knit Mount-Royal community. Each week, elementary students and seniors came together to work on art projects while at the same time learning about the lives of one another!

The Art Classes
Over the winter and spring, the project participants focused on learning how to use different media and explored how creativity could be inspired by many different places and experiences. Under the guidance of Préville Productions artist, Beverly Landry, the group created a wide-range of works — from Valentine’s Day cards and holiday ornaments, to beautiful watercolour paintings and handmade ceramic jewellery.

The participants grew their toolbox of artistic expression in preparation for a year-end art show that wrapped up the Saplings and Sage project and showcased the work they’ve created together. This special event, that was held at The Graham Residence in late spring, welcomed the friends and families of both the students and residents to celebrate the connections and creativity that had been fostered through the project.

Building Bridges Between Generations
Saplings and Sages” offered a unique and powerful opportunity to build connections between two different generations. Through shared creative expression, laughter, and storytelling, participants not only made art, but also built meaningful friendships.

Special Thanks
Préville Productions would like to thank Carlyle Elementary, The Graham Residence, the Préville Fine Arts Center and Canadian Heritage for their continued support of the Saplings and Sages collaborative project.
