A sweet introduction to creative movement for toddlers and their caregivers, featuring imaginative play, musical games, and simple guided motions that spark coordination, confidence, and early musicality—an important foundation for future dance and music learning. Ideal for ages 18 months to 3 years.

In this class dancers build confidence and develop social skills. This class incorporates the fundamentals of Ballet and enables the dancers to express their love for movement and music in a fun and creative environment. A fun and high-energy class where young dancers learn basic hip-hop steps through choreography and playful freestyle. Dancers explore groove, rhythm, and coordination while being introduced to the roots of hip-hop culture and the early basics of popping. Perfect for new dancers who love to move and express themselves!

Dancers are exposed to slightly longer classes where they’ll learn new skills and build on previous experience. Styles for this age group include Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop!
Ballet Level I works on building strength and establishing a strong foundation for every other style. Dancers will learn to combine steps and progress into performing routines from a combination of class exercises at the barre and in the centre.
It is strongly recommended that dancers take two classes per week of Ballet Level I, however the option to choose one or the other of the two classes is possible.

Dancers interested in Ballet, Jazz / Contemporary, Tap and Hip Hop have the opportunity for more advanced choreography!
This is a mixed level class for dancers 13+ who are new to ballet, or who have 1-2 years of experience, or who have more experience, but who wish to dance at a recreational level.
This class would be an option to fulfill the technical requirements for competitive tap dancers.
For more experienced dancers who are 13+ and who wish to train at a higher level, please inquire about the CDCQ.

Dance classes for adults of all ages and fitness levels! Depending on class size, some adult classes may become available at a drop-in basis once the session has started.

Essentrics is a full-body workout that combines stretching and strengthening to develop long, lean muscles, improve posture, increase mobility, and relieve tension. Inspired by ballet, tai chi, and physiotherapy, this dynamic, low-impact class is set to music and suitable for all fitness levels. Ideal for anyone looking to improve flexibility, core strength, and overall body awareness in a gentle yet effective way.

The Préville Dance Academy is pleased to offer dancers competition and performance opportunities through our competitive groups and The Préville Fine Arts Centre’s resident dance company, La compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ).
Competitive groups include Contemporary and Tap.
To participate in competitive groups, or to compete as a soloist or as part of a duo, dancers must be at least 10 years old by December 31, 2026.
The Contemporary competitive group will train together and compete in the contemporary category at two competitions.
Participants must also be registered in the recreational Contemporary & Jazz class for their age group on Thursdays, and in one or two ballet classes.
TWO ADDITIONAL HOURS of dance at Préville per week, other than the competition class on Saturdays, is required.

The Junior Tap competitive group will train together and compete in the Tap category at two competitions.
Participants must also take the JUNIOR recreational tap class on Tuesdays, AS WELL AS one other technical class – ballet, hip hop, or jazz & contemporary.
At least one year of previous Tap experience is required.
Participation is at the discretion of the teacher.
AGE GROUP: 10 years old and up
DAY & TIME: Fridays 5:45pm-7:15pm

The Intermediate Tap competitive group will train together and compete in the Tap category at two competitions.
Participants must also take the INTERMEDIATE recreational tap class on Tuesdays, AS WELL AS one other technical class – ballet, hip hop, or jazz & contemporary.
Two to three years of previous Tap experience is required.
Participation is at the discretion of the teacher.
AGE GROUP: 11 years old and up

Dancers who wish to compete in a solo or duo category must be 10 years old as of December 31, 2026.
We are planning on going to two competitions this year.
The opportunity to compete with a solo or duo in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Lyrical is available to dancers who meet the minimum age requirement and who also take at least two technical classes in any style during the week.
Dancers are to arrange their solo and duo lessons directly with the teacher involved.
Teacher fees vary and are to be paid directly to the teacher. In addition to the teacher’s fee, there is a $15 per hour studio rental fee for solo and duo lessons or practice time, to be paid via e-transfer.
NOTE: Competition entry fees and costume fees will be billed separately in the Winter.
Solos, Duos and Trios will perform at the Showcase, as well as in two competitions. Performing in the year-end show will depend on how long the show is running. These numbers are not guaranteed to perform in the year-end show. Participation may be determined by a draw or at the discretion of staff.
The Compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ) is a division of the Préville Fine Arts Centre.
The CDCQ offers something unique to dancers on the South Shore of Montreal–an alternative to the traditional competition scene. Think full-length choreography, performances, masterclasses, enrichment activities, and the chance to connect with professionals in the dance community.

The Préville Dance Academy hosts several masterclasses and dance workshops throughout the year. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity to explore something new and unique while learning from highly skilled, specialized instructors.

Dance Uniforms & costumes
A uniform is required for most of our dance classes. Uniforms can be purchased wherever you like but must match the uniform description for your class. In early September, at our dance studio, there will be opportunity to try on and order uniforms from Le Soulier de Satin.
Please note that the year-end dress rehearsal and show will be at the end of May, with exact dates to follow. Please follow The Préville Dance Academy google calendar to see updates.
All participating dancers will be required to purchase a costume. In the Winter, we will open registration for participation in the year-end show. At that time you will be able to pay for your costume and/or participation fee.
A $15 Registration & Administration Fee (non-refundable) is applied once per person per invoice. The Préville Dance Academy reserves the right to cancel or change a class due to insufficient enrolment. In this case a full refund will be issued.
