Arts & Crafts Workshops
Interactive workshops delivered straight to your classroom, live or online. Workshops are available during school hours, at lunch time or after school. Please note: online workshops require a smart board (or equivalent) with internet access. Below is a list of workshops we currently offer.
AGE GROUP: All ages (kindergarten, primary and secondary students)
DURATION: 50 minutes (option to book several sessions available)
Share instructor Beverly Landry’s passion for art and art history by making beautiful art together while learning about famous artists, and the cultural and historical elements that influenced their lives and their work. Whether it’s painting, drawing, collage creations or other creative mediums, each workshop can be tailored to the specific time period or art style that your class desires!
AGE GROUP: Primary (Cycle 1 and up) and secondary
DURATION: 50 minutes (option to book several sessions available)
This workshop allows participants to create unique and personal decorative objects from dried gourds. Students will discover the potential of this magical fruit and highlight its unique shape with the guidance of Floribert Bantsimba, a multidisciplinary artist of African origin, notably from Congo-Brazzaville.
AGE GROUP: Primary (Cycle 1 and up) and secondary.
DURATION: 50 minutes
Jason Sikoak, artist from Nunatsiavut currently working with mixed media, pen-and-ink drawing and linolieum cut printmaking, will lead students in creating their own character and story.
MATERIALS PROVIDED:
– Drawing Paper
– Graphite Pencils
– Artist Eraser
After teaching students some basic drawing techniques, Jason will create a character, along with a story that this character stars in. Students will then be guided to create their own character and stories that they will be invited to share with the rest of the class.

The artist will introduce students to art journaling as an expressive outlet. Centred around mindful art-making, the goal is to create with intention and begin a weekly art practice in a sketchbook. Art journaling can help us centre our thoughts, and channel our inner creative selves, contributing to a deeper sense of mental well-being.

DURATION: 50 minutes (option to book several sessions available)
Students learn basic techniques to make their own custom-made piece of jewelry. Each piece incorporates Turkish evil eye beads, as talismans of resilience, protection and good luck. The artist offers background information about the use of the beads in different world cultures and historical periods.

The Art of Programming
AGE GROUP: Primary (Cycle 1 and up) and secondary students
DURATION: 50 minutes (suggested to book 6-10 sessions)
Participants will learn to put together their own robot using the unique technology created by the team at Robot in a Can, while also learning about electricity, artificial intelligence and design fundamentals.
