Holiday Spectacular 2024: Finding Nutcracker

A Préville Original Production
This December, we celebrate the holidays, and our Préville creativity, with our main fundraising event of the year, a holiday benefit performance where all profits are used to support our Belva Thomas bursary programme.

This year we are doing something very special! We are presenting an original production that features students from all disciplines: music, art, theatre, dance, sewing and robotics!

“Finding Nutcracker”

Staff and students are collaborating via phone, email and hallway chats to create an entirely new story adaptation of The Nutcracker, called “Finding Nutcracker,” which was written by Maria Gacesa. Some of the dialogue was workshopped and created in Tracey’s theatre classes, and original themed artwork made in Carlos and Beverly’s art classes will be for sale alongside cool merchandise at our Holiday Market in the lobby, before the show and during intermission.

What if the Mice Had Won?

The premise of the story springs from an idea that Jeremy Raia, artistic director of the Compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ), offered when we were discussing the idea of presenting a Nutcracker adaptation: What if the mice had won?

We ran with the idea and created an original story that sees Fritz and Marie go on an adventure to find Nutcracker, who they realize has gone missing during their annual holiday party. You might recognize some characters, but be ready for lots of surprises, including a cat and mouse twist, and gorgeous performances by our young dancers, actors and musicians.

Be ready for even more surprises when you see how our visual artists and young coders and sewing department lend their talents to help bring the story to life!

Join us!

This is the most important fundraising event that we do each year. Requests for bursary support increase every session, and last year we allocated over $65 000 to children and families so that they could enjoy all of the benefits that our Préville activities offer.

Please bring your friends and family to fill the beautiful, spacious hall at Heritage Regional High School! Come delight in the show and spread the joy of the season through the arts!
