Two fun painting activities for seniors, taught by artist, Beverly Landry
Préville Productions is grateful to build on a partnership that began last year with MEPEC (Montérégie East Partnership for the English-Speaking Community), with a new series of paint parties and ongoing, online painting classes for seniors.
Paint Parties!
This Fall, artist Beverly Landry led two paint parties to groups in Montérégie. One was hosted at the Auclair Branch 121 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Otterburn Park, and the other took place at the Manoir Saint-Bruno senior’s residence in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville.
MEPEC Program Manager, Debbie Hanley, and Community Development Agent, Jessica Sypher, worked with the Préville Productions team to plan the events and recruit participants. In total there were between 25 – 40 participants at each event. Several small friendship groups signed up together, and by the end of the evening many new friendships were formed!
Denise Parsons, the Recreation Director at Manoir Saint-Bruno helped recruit participants from the local area as well as from the Manoir to join the event. Many keen artists from Beverly’s past online art classes also attended this activity in Saint-Bruno.
Beverly’s Magic Formula: Art, Friends and Fun
Every paint party starts with Beverly setting up the room with paints, easels and canvases. Participants arrive and spend the next 1.5 to 2 hours following Beverly’s step by step instructions that lead to a completed painting by the end of the evening.
Novice painters are always welcome and gain confidence with each step. Many are surprised at the end, standing back and admiring the painting that they had begun in self-doubt and completed in success!
Beverly truly has a way of teasing out the artist in every person. It’s a magical thing to make art together, while having fun, eating and enjoying each other’s company and creativity. The evening ends by celebrating everyone’s results with a big round of applause and a group photo.
Online Art Classes
The other ongoing activity this Fall organized by Préville Productions and MEPEC was a series of online painting classes, also taught by Beverly.
MEPEC funded the activity and distributed the supplies to the artists, who met with Beverly online, from their own homes, once a week, over a period of six weeks. These online classes followed the same step-by-step process as Beverly uses in her in-person classes and paint parties, with the goal of each week’s class being a finished painting.
This popular activity will repeat in the Winter for another six weeks!
Préville Productions: Adaptable Activities for Seniors
Art, Art and More Art with Beverly! Painting is just one of the creative activities that Beverly can adapt to the ages and abilities of the participant group. Some special workshops she offers to seniors include: Delightful Drawing, Journaling Through Collage, and Multimedia Card Making with Watercolour.
Movement, Music and Well-Being
Préville Productions also offers a wealth of adaptable movement-based activities for seniors that incorporate music and promote well-being. These workshops and shows include Gentle Fitness, African Drumming, Hoop Dancing and Sharing and Caring, to name a few!
