Registration is open year round. If your class has already started, your fee will automatically be pro-rated when you register in Amilia.
Please note that age categories are a guideline. Teachers may move your dancer to a different class if they feel it will best support where they are in their dance journey.

For our youngest dancers to enjoy movement and music on their own for the first time.

A sweet introduction to creative movement for toddlers and their caregivers, featuring imaginative play, musical games, and simple guided motions that spark coordination, confidence, and early musicality—an important foundation for future dance and music learning. Ideal for ages 18 months to 3 years.

Dancers continue their training in Ballet, Jazz/Contemporary, Tap and Hip Hop.

Combinations to strengthen the legs, feet and ankles are introduced in preparation for pointe work. Pointe work may also be incorporated for some dancers (as per teacher’s discretion).

Essentrics is a full-body workout that combines stretching and strengthening to develop long, lean muscles, improve posture, increase mobility, and relieve tension. Inspired by ballet, tai chi, and physiotherapy, this dynamic, low-impact class is set to music and suitable for all fitness levels. Ideal for anyone looking to improve flexibility, core strength, and overall body awareness in a gentle yet effective way.

Competitive Groups and Dance Company

The Préville Dance Academy is pleased to offer dancers competition and performance opportunities through our competitive groups and The Préville Fine Arts Centre’s resident dance company, La compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ).

Competitive groups include Contemporary and Tap.

To participate in competitive groups, or to compete as a soloist or as part of a duo, dancers must be at least 10 years old by December 31, 2025. 

The Contemporary competitive group will train together and compete in the contemporary category at two competitions.

Participants must also be registered in the jazz/contemporary recreational class for their age group on Thursdays, or in ballet. Two more hours of dance per week, other than the competition class on Saturdays, is highly recommended. Please send an email if you’d like to discuss a particular arrangement for your dancer.

Dancers who wish to compete in a solo or duo category must be 10 years old as of December 31, 2025. 

We are planning on going to two competitions: CNDC and Candance

The opportunity to compete with a solo or duo in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Lyrical is available to dancers who meet the minimum age requirement and who also take at least two technical classes in any style during the week (Ballet Level I/II and Level III each count as two classes).

Hip Hop and Tap soloists must also take the group classes at their level. At the discretion of the Hip Hop and Tap teachers, some older, highly-experienced, Tap-only or Hip Hop-only dancers may be permitted to compete as soloists only, and may not be required to also take the group classes. This is case by case, relatively rare and must also be approved by the Centre’s administrative staff.

Dancers are to arrange their solo and duo lessons directly with the teacher involved.  

Teacher fees vary and are to be paid directly to the teacher. In addition to the teacher’s fee, there is a $15 per hour studio rental fee for solo and duo lessons or practice time, to be paid via cash or square at the desk, or via etransfer.

NOTE: Competition entry fees and costume fees will be billed separately in the Winter.

The Compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ) is a division of the Préville Fine Arts Centre.

The CDCQ offers something unique to dancers on the South Shore of Montreal–an alternative to the traditional competition scene. Think full-length choreography, performances, masterclasses, enrichment activities, and the chance to connect with professionals in the dance community.

Special Masterclasses and workshops

The Préville Dance Academy hosts several masterclasses and dance workshops throughout the year. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity to explore something new and unique while learning from highly skilled, specialized instructors.

Step into the world of contemporary dance with Compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ) alumnus Simon Armeni-Crowe in this masterclass. Experience the kind of training and creative exploration that CDCQ dancers encounter every day, building the skills, confidence, and artistry that guide dancers toward the CDCQ path.

Whether you’re aiming for CDCQ or simply are curious about contemporary dance, this workshop gives you a taste of the direction that has become the benchmark for aspiring dancers. Through tailored and fun exercises, Simon will introduce you to a variety of techniques used in the contemporary dance landscape, from the use of weight and gravity to an introduction to improvisation!

Open to all levels.

Lésouta Luc Bambara has been sharing his culture and his passion for drumming and dancing throughout Québec for over a decade. In this workshop, Luc will share a taste of culture from Burkina Faso, while teaching participants rhythm patterns and how to dance, drum and sing together.

This 1.5-hour masterclass (6:00 PM–7:30 PM), hosted by the Compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ), is part of CDCQ’s regular Masterclass Series. Normally reserved for CDCQ company dancers, this particular workshop is open to the public — offering non-CDCQ members the opportunity to share the studio with current CDCQ dancers, while trying something new and learning from a specialized African dance teacher!

Open to all levels.

Discover the Art of Flamenco with Anna Sanchez!

Join Anna Sanchez for a dynamic introduction to the fundamentals of flamenco, exploring its rich rhythm and expressive style. You’ll learn basic rhythmic patterns in 4 and 12 counts (compás), dive into festive forms like Tangos and Bulerías, and practice zapateado (footwork percussion) and palmas (hand clapping). Participants will also work on signature flamenco styling—hand movements, arm placement, posture, and stage presence.

What to Bring:
If possible, wear character shoes or comfortable square-heeled shoes. If you don’t have these, running shoes work just fine—just make sure you can comfortably stomp your feet. (No tap shoes, please!).

Open to all levels, this workshop blends technique with an appreciation of flamenco’s cultural roots—and offers a taste of the professional training regularly offered at CDCQ.

Dance Uniforms & costumes

A uniform is required for most of our dance classes. Uniforms can be purchased wherever you like but must match the uniform description for your class. In early September, at our dance studiothere will be opportunity to try on and order uniforms from Le Soulier de Satin.

Please note that the year-end dress rehearsal and show will be at the end of May, with exact dates to follow. Please follow The Préville Dance Academy google calendar to see updates.

All participating dancers will be required to purchase a costume. In December we will open registration for participation in the year-end show. At that time you will be able to pay for your costume and/or participation fee.

A $15 Registration & Administration Fee (non-refundable) is applied once per person per invoice. The Préville Dance Academy reserves the right to cancel or change a class due to insufficient enrolment. In this case a full refund will be issued.
