RÊVERIE – A Dream on Stage

RÊVERIE is an original contemporary dance creation by renowned choreographer and dancer, Jera Wolfe. The upcoming world premiere performance is the result of one year’s work!

On May 4, 2024, Préville’s youth dance company, the Compagnie de danse contemporaine du Québec (CDCQ) will present RÊVERIE – a youthful meditation on friendship, hope and promise.

The aspiring dancers of the CDCQ will be joined onstage by two colleagues from the professional world, Leah Tremblay and Émile Vasoncelos-Taillefer. They are directed by CDCQ’S Artistic Director, former principal dancer from Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and Master Teacher, Jeremy Raia.

This is a unique opportunity to see contemporary dance at its finest, easily accessible in a beautiful theatre on Montreal’s South Shore.

For young dancers, come and see the kind of project you could be a part of! The CDCQ will be auditioning new dancers soon for 2024-2025 season! For more seasoned dancers and dance lovers in general, this is a chance to come out and support this next generation of dancers!

How it All Began
In the Spring of 2023, former CDCQ Artistic Director, Jamie Malysh, approached Jera Wolfe to create an original piece for the company. He graciously took up the offer and began visiting in May. He returned every few months for several intense days of creation and rehearsal between his other professional engagements.

About halfway through the process, Jera spoke on camera about the importance of young dancers being exposed to the world of professional dance creation, and how most dancers don’t get that opportunity until, and if, they enter the professional realm. The Préville Fine Arts Centre, as an established, 50-year old arts organization, is in a unique position to be able to offer young artists this kind of experience, and sees the CDCQ as a link in the chain from dance education to the professional realm, for those who wish to pursue that path.

In January 2024, the CDCQ held auditions to round out the cast, and hired professional dancers, Leah and Émile to join the project. The CDCQ dancers also participated in a professional photo shoot to create promotional materials for the show, and for the new, dedicated CDCQ website.

Now, the show is just around the corner, and the dancers, Jera and Jeremy are excited to share the dream of RÊVERIE with a live audience!
