Robotics and Computer Science Program

The Préville Fine Arts Centre is expanding! Not only do we offer the best in music and art instruction but we are now able to offer you robotics and coding courses as well.

Robot in a Can is a unique program designed to teach the basics of computer science and electronics. Classes are available for kids and adults alike. We are proud to be the first and only program of this kind offered on the South Shore.

2020 Fall Classes

In this workshop series, students build their own robots and bring them to life using the programs they write. Each week, our facilitators lead fun and exciting activities that teach the basics of design, computer sciences, and electronics.

This class challenges learners with coding fundamentals: Our visual drag-and-drop interface is an introduction to computer science. When paired with our robotics kit, feedback is immediate, allowing students to see their code in action.

We introduce the basics of circuitry by learning about various types of wiring and sensors. Sensors measure real world data such as soil humidity, distance, and temperature. Students get to combine their new skills and pursue their own projects of interest using easy to find household materials. All materials are included, and the series includes your very own ‘Robot in a Can’ kit that you can use both in class and at your leisure!

*Due to pandemic-related health and safety considerations, Préville is planning to offer hybrid group activities: those who wish can participate in person (up to our class size limit) and others may participate online.  As per usual, Préville reserves the right to make changes to class availability.
