From August 9-13, The  Kincardine Summer Music Festival and The Préville Fine Arts Centre are partnering to offer some of Préville’s most popular online music and art classes, as well as new classes taught by some local Kincardine talent!

Préville is very excited to be connecting with the patrons and directors of this established music festival, and we can’t wait  to meet a new community of arts lovers.

Online Music Classes Being Offered

The Préville Fine Arts Centre is proud to be partnering with the Kincardine Summer Music Festival this summer! The Centre will be offering live, interactive classes, online and delivered straight to your home. All you need to join is a computer and connection to the internet! Registration is required as spaces are limited.

Below is a list of classes being offered. 

Music By The Season is an educational seasons-inspired group music program founded by songwriter, guitarist, and educator Alison Notkin and designed to get little ones and their caregivers singing songs, moving to rhythm and music, discovering instruments and thinking about music and nature together in a fun and relaxed environment. 

AGE GROUP: 5-8 years old
DAY & TIME: Every day from 10am-11am OR 11am-12pm.

Beginner: 6 years+
In this beginner ukulele class you will learn how to hold, tune and play the four different styles of ukuleles. Students will have access to printable pdfs and videos that will help teach basic chords, such as C, F & G. The instructors will demonstrate the music and explain concepts in clear and accessible language, with an accent on keeping it fun!

Intermediate: 8 years+  (adults welcome!)
Students in the intermediate ukulele class will already have some knowledge of C, F & G chords. We will  be mixing them up with the C major scale, learning how to incorporate a melody and chords in the same song.

NOTE: We can help you rent or borrow a ukulele (need-based).

Glenn is a passionate multi-instrumentalist (fiddle, banjo, guitar, button accordion) who has participated in the roots and folk music scenes in Montreal and St. John’s, NL since 2005. His blog featuring the home recordings of Gaspesian fiddlers, guitarists, and singers, (“Erskine Morris: Old-Time Fiddle Music from the Gaspé Coast”) has attracted the interest of many of Quebec’s premier traditional musicians who have learned, performed, recorded, and shared this music on the world stage.

In this intermediate Songwriting Course, you will explore essential song structure, discuss and analyze songs, write lyrics, explore chord progressions and ultimately, create and write our own songs. Maybe you’ve never written a song before–great! Perhaps you have a song or two on the go–fantastic! Wherever you are in your songwriting journey, this course will give you the opportunity to explore the creation process.

In this workshop we will learn and prepare parts for a concert piece. The sheet music will be sent to participants in advance of the workshops to give some time to prepare beforehand. Students will record themselves and Nancy will mix all of the recordings together to create a virtual concert recording!

Extra art classes from Préville (not sponsored by KSMF)

The Préville Fine Arts Centre has organized three  live, online art classes to complement the Kincardine Summer Music Festival. Classes are taught by Préville’s ever-popular Beverly Landry, and Kincardine’s Nicole MacKay–a talented and emerging beadwork artist!

Spaces are limited and fees can be paid upon registration. 

Pastels! They’re bright, beautiful and fun!  Basically anything a crayon can do a pastel can do better! Learn pastel techniques with Beverly, such as drawing, hatching, cross hatching and blending. Watch your creativity soar to new heights!

Have you ever stared at a painting and wished with all your heart that you could paint like that? In this 90-minute workshop, step by step instructions will be given to create your own beautiful work of art. Beverly is a dynamic and inviting teacher and by the end of this class, you will feel increased confidence in expressing your own artistic vision.

Express your creativity by learning flat and 3D beadweaving techniques with Kincardine’s own Nicole MacKay! After taking Préville Online’s Beadweaving class with Craig Commanda this past spring, Nicole found a passion and aptitude for beadweaving that is remarkable! In this 90-minute class, Nicole will teach students essential beading techniques to make flat peyote triangles, and how to assemble them into different shapes and patterns–even warped squares–using Hama beads. These shapes can be used to make jewelry, art, sculpture … the sky’s the limit!
